MountainBrook Village

MBV Hiking (Oct - April)

We live in one of the best hiking areas in the country for enjoying a variety of mountain terrain and landscapes. There are caves i.e., Geronimo, Broadway, and Wave. Vistas i.e., Fremont Saddle, Massacre Ridge, Picket Post and Flatiron. Other sites we may visit are Circlestone, Petroglyphs, Fountain Hills Fountain, Weavers Needle, Tony's Ranch, Arizona Trail, the Horns of Dilemma, and many more.

There are four weekly opportunities to hike with MBV fellow residents and friends:
Tuesday (all Levels) – meet at 7:00AM at the Sunset Center parking lot next to the pickleball courts. Hike to Silly Mountain and back, returning in time for 9:00 AM coffee and news at the Superstition Center.

Wednesday (Level 1 – “Walk & Gawk”) – meet at the Ocotillo Room parking lot at 9am.  The hike will be approx. 2 hours in/out on gentle terrain with elevation gains up to 500 ft.  If you are new to hiking or enjoy a relaxed pace, this is a good group to start with.

Friday (Level 2 – Pioneers) – meet at the Ocotillo Room parking lot at 8am.  The hike will be approx. 3 hours in/out on varied terrain with a distance of   4 – 8 miles and elevations up to 1500 ft. Hiking experience and a moderate level of fitness is an asset.

Thursday (Level 3 – Mountaineers) – a hike of 5-7 hours and 6 – 15 miles on varied terrain with elevation gains up to 3000 ft.  There may be steep uphill and downhill sections with loose rocks and boulders, and water crossings. Prior hiking experience and a good fitness level are essential. For safety reasons, those interested in Thursday hikes must first hike with the Friday group (see above) and be approved by the Thursday hike leader prior to their first hike with this group.

For Levels 1 & 2, there will be an optional stop at a local eatery after the hike. For level 3, bring your own lunch and eat on the trail.

For Wed, Thurs & Friday hikes, we will travel to the trailhead via carpools, with  passengers paying the driver the amount designated by the hike leader, upon safe return to the parking lot.

Wed hike details will be posted on Facebook Village Neighbors by the Monday prior to the hike.  Friday hikes will be posted by the Wed prior to the hike.  Search #hiking.
