The following is from Carnival Cruise Line Dated: December 23, 2008
Hello everyone. Sandy has asked that I forward this message from her along to
you. This is going out to our community Activity Directors who have passengers
scheduled on the above cruise. (Montesa, Florence Gardens, Mountain Brook,
Broadway Estates, Pioneer)
We received the e-mail below just this morning from Carnival advising us that
the cruise has had an itinerary change. We are of course still planning to
depart as scheduled. However, we are working with Carnival at the moment to
determine what kind of remuneration will be provided to our passengers in return
for the inconvenience of this itinerary change. For example, we are negotiating
a credit towards a future cruise next year, which would of course include the
Panama Canal cruise we have already booked for January 2010.
Regarding shore excursions booked at the Panama Canal - Carnival will be
refunding the cost of those shore excursions to those passengers that have
booked them at that location.
If you get questions about this, please let your passengers know that once we
receive Carnival's offer, we will be sending letters out to all of them. In the
meantime, we are looking forward to this upcoming cruise, and are confident it
will be a great time for everyone.

A Message from Sandy Lozier, Especially 4-U Tours, to our Carnival Cruise
Passengers - January 16, 2009
Some of you may have already been made aware
of this, but we wanted to personally send this important message to all our
passengers on the upcoming January 16th cruise. We want to thank
those of you who made the effort to pay us a personal visit to the office to
discuss the situation which came up in the past few days.
At the end of last week, we received
notification from Carnival Cruise Lines that they had to make an unexpected
change to the itinerary for your cruise. The reason for this change was due to
a propulsion system issue, which causes the ship to travel more slowly than
required to reach the Panama Canal and return in the 8-day trip. It is in no
way a safety issue - it simply slows the ship down. Thus, they had no
alternative but to change the itinerary, resulting in the removal of the Colon,
Panama and Costa Rica stops.
They have replaced those stops with three
new great ports, those being Cozumel, Costa Maya in the State of Quintana Roo,
Mexico (Yucatan Peninsula), and the other the beautiful island of Roatan off of
the coast of Honduras. The Belize stop remains intact. Thus, you will now have
four port stops vs. the three originally planned. Colon, Panama represented
one day of an 8-day Western Caribbean cruise, and we’re pleased that they have
added the three new stops. The new itinerary is attached.
While we realize that there may be some
disappointment in the change of itinerary at this late date, Carnival really had
no alternative, and does, like all cruise liners, reserve the right to make
these changes when absolutely necessary. We remain confident, however, that
this is still going to be a great cruise, with a lot of fun activities and
opportunities to connect and/or reconnect with friends and family.
I have personally been working non-stop with
Carnival to determine what, if any, remuneration Carnival will provide to our
passengers to compensate you for this inconvenience. Unfortunately because of
the timing of all this, many of the executives with whom I need to speak are
unavailable because of previously planned holiday vacations. In any event, they
are very aware of how upset we have been about this change, and I’m hopeful,
though we cannot guarantee, that we will be able to provide you with some type
of benefit to offset this change.
After having spoken to a number of you
personally, and fully explaining the situation, we really don’t anticipate
requests for cancellations as a result of all this. As I said before, this is
still a wonderful cruise, and a beautiful ship. However, for those that have
considered cancelling, we don’t want you to lose the investment you have made
with this trip. Carnival may be willing to reimburse you for their portion of
the cruise if notified quickly, but keep in mind that there are many other
expenses for which you have paid that are non-reimbursable at this time. Those
would be the airfare, the hotel, meals and the coach transportation at both
ends. Those expenses have already been paid in full and are non-refundable per
our contracts with the airline, hotel and coach companies. Thus, a cancellation
would cause you to forfeit a large portion of your payment. Knowing that, we
don’t want you to be financially impacted by this change. It seems like it
would be more beneficial to complete the cruise since you have already paid for
it, rather than lose the money and also not go.
We have also been advised by Carnival that
each passenger will be receiving an estimated reimbursement of $72.00 for the
fuel surcharges previously paid due to the oil prices. Those will be reflected
as a credit to your Sign and Sail card when you board. Also, those of you who
booked shore excursions in Panama will of course receive or have already
received credits from Carnival back to the credit card used to book the
excursion.
We’re very happy that the cruise will go on
as scheduled, and we are looking forward to welcoming you to Fort Lauderdale at
the end of your flight there on January 15, 2009.
We look forward to seeing all of you at our
upcoming cruise document parties in January! We appreciate your business and
thank you for your patience and flexibility during this unexpected change.
My very best regards, and best wishes for a
lovely holiday season!
